Back to school to improve services

Date: 20/01/2017

Yorkshire Laser and Fabrications (YLF) has been at the forefront of laser metal cutting since Garnet Orford started the business in 1991.
We have an international reputation for laser cutting and sheet metal fabrication thanks to our expertise, experience and innovation.
It allows us to deliver the most up-to-date, reliable and sustainable products, regardless of sector or service. We currently work in auto, medical, food and power generation.
With a team of 35, mostly skilled engineers and designers we know that to remain competitive we have to invest in our team. We recently identified three key areas where we could add value to customers through additional skills.
CAD parametric modelling, transitioning to ISO 9001:2015 standard and management systems.
So it was back to school for three of our CAD designers who attended a course at York University in parametric modelling. Software is a vital tool to help us remain competitive and efficient.  We have always aimed to use the latest products and systems to remain the best in our field so they completed a specific software course on a programme we commonly use. This will help them now but also help us as we implement plans to grow the company.
We helped our internal team develop their understanding of environmental systems so they could organise the transition to ISO 9001:2015 and we also supported the management team to enhance their professional skills.
Thanks to the Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership we were able to get funding for some of the training.
All of this combines to improve the standard of service and the quality of the skills we can offer or existing and new customers.
