At Yorkshire Laser & Fabrication we provide sheet metal fabrication services to a vast range of clients and sectors. Whilst some of our more common orders involve fabrications for large industrial projects, we also readily fulfil smaller, bespoke orders for customers who require a highly personalised service in relation to designing and manufacturing a specific part.

With sheet metal fabrication at the heart of everything you use on a daily basis, we want to take you through the complete beginners guide to sheet metal fabrication.

What is sheet metal fabrication?

In the most basic sense of the phrase, sheet metal fabrication uses sheet metal to build metal machines and structures and can be a highly complex process depending on the final product required.  Typically, every project requires laser profiling, CNC punching and folding, welding and expertly finishing before being handed over to any client.

Sheet metal can be cut, bent or stretched into nearly any shape, which is generally done by cutting and burning the metal.

What is it used for?

Sheet metal is often used to create larger final products and to do so the metal is shaped to create each bespoke element. There is no specific industry sheet metal fabrication lends itself to. It is required across a vast range of sectors from the automotive and engineering industry through to food and medical manufacturing.

How is it made?

At Yorkshire Laser & Fabrication our in-house team make use of computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software which enables us to produce sheet metal products to your exact requirements. All sheet metal goes through 3 main stages, cutting, which is vital for ensuring the product meets the desired shape or fit, bending, which allows complex shapes and products to be created and assembling, which once shaped and bent, all the products will require piecing together.

Due to the nature of sheet metal, it tends to be very robust and strong, which means it can be used for various different means and is popular across many different sectors and industries. At Yorkshire Laser and Fabrication we do not focus our business operations on one particular industry, instead we specialise in how sheet metal fabrication can best serve your particular industry.

To this end, we are experts in the field of sheet metal fabrication and have a vast understanding of its applications within a variety of different fields.
